The Myrtle Beach area is welcoming a skating rink to Market Common on December 19. It will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until January 3. Skating is a Northern holiday past time that is now coming to the beach. Managers at Market Common hope it will attract visitors as well as provide locals with some holiday entertainment. The cost is only $7 for skates and skating time. A free skating voucher will be given for every $50 spent at market common stores and restaurants. The rink will be made of synthetic ice, requiring less energy and no water, making it environmentally friendly. It is made of a cutting board type material and skate blades will release lubricants so skaters get the feeling of being on real ice.

Myrtle Beach Couple Plan Cross-Country Golf Tour

Mike Evans and Juanita Rosenfeld left on Oct. 5 to travel the country for the next year with their dogs. They are using their 41ft. motor home purchased on Ebay, as their home for the next 12 months. They will be traveling with nothing more than a campground directory, golf magazines, internet, and each other. They only have a few predetermined stops; those being, Bluffton later this month for a mixed couples tournament, in Los Angeles at Thanksgiving to be with family, and in Mesquite, Nevada in May for a large amateur tournament. Once returning home, they intend to sell the motor home when they settle on a location and can finally get back to their old wagers.

It’s that time of year again. It’s time for all of us to pitch in and give a helping hand cleaning up our beautiful beaches. What am I talking about? The State’s Annual Beach and River Sweep is here. This Saturday there will be thousands of people hitting the beaches with garbage bags to clean up the litter and debris on our beaches. Each year in September, thousands of volunteers lend a helping hand to clean trash from our beaches, rivers, lakes, swamps, and marshes. 60 tons of debris was removed last year. If you decide to join in, doughnuts, bottled water, and trash bags will be provided. All you have to give is your time and commitment.
